Kasperwing Frequently asked questions
or otherwise just good questions
?- What is the stall speed of the Kasperwing 1-80A
As quoted in the manual 18mph with 150lb pilot
?- What is Mush Mode and how does it work
The Kasperwing has the ability to "Mush" land in a vertical decent that is decelerated by the Vortex effects on the top rear surface of the wing. This is one of the Kasperwings "claim to fame" and what makes the craft very stable at slow speeds. As the wing stalls and begins to sink a horizontal tornado or "Vortex" is created on the rear surface of the wing providing a kind of "Lift". Opening one rudder or the other will spill the vortex off one side of the wing and the plane will both bank and roll in that direction.
?- How much training is required and where can I take lessons in a kasperwing
Well....um...ah...duh... OK im not the best one to ask!! There where very few 2 place kasperwings ever made and after hosting this website for like 3 or 4 years now I myself have yet to see a 2 place kasperwing in real life. The Cascade policy was not to sell the craft to non pilot types. For those new to the sport (myself included) the best thing is to seek training in a 2place weight shift of some type. I took a few lessons on a trike but found the Kasperwing a very different experience. So this leaves most people with some basic training in a weight shift and learning the Kasperwing "by the seat of your pants"!! Yeah that's how I did it and with very few trike lessons prior. So as the guy who owned the field I learned to fly on use to say "Boy, you got some big ones for flying that thing". Honestly I think the kwing is safe enough that anyone can attempt some runway hops or taxi practice in a single afternoon of training. I put in a good 10 hours of runway work, hops, straight and level 20ft over the runway and so on.
